I do overeat and that’s why I am not the weight I’d like to be. Not all people who are overweight binge. I used to eat too little during the day and come home and binge at night. It's never pleasant when you're going through a change like this. Look at the contestants on the Biggest Loser. They are STRESSED. Then at the finale they are in their glory. As someone who just won my first DietBet, I have to disagree with you on this. Sure you gained weight once you started working out. You barely weighed anything to begin with! Which good for you! That really is awesome. But I just had my second baby 4 months ago and gained more than enough weight. So yes, I do have a goal weight I’d like to get back to. I understand your thoughts that the scale shouldn’t determine health. But for those of us that need to lose 15-20 lbs, it can be a good indicator and motivator. And not everyone is bothered by the scale. I judge my health by how I feel and look. World Travel Players are prompted to submit their official start weight two days prior to the start of the game, (see below for weigh-in procedures). Once the game begins, players have 28 days to lose 4% of their initial body weight. DietBet does not promote a specific diet or weight loss strategy; instead, players are allowed to choose any strategy to lose weight (eg, low-fat diets, low-carbohydrate diets, etc). During the game, players post photos, comments, and weight loss tips (Figure 1 shows a screenshot). They are also encouraged to stay accountable to one another by posting their weight loss. Players can view their weight loss relative to the weight loss of others in the game (see Multimedia Appendix 1). To facilitate game communication and sharing, players have access to the DietBet app, which is designed for all smartphone mobile devices and includes all aspects of the gaming platform. I agree that it helps you keep a slow and steady weight loss goal. My issue was that i had a big weekend the week before the weigh in (2 birthdays and a wedding!!) and i am now having to work very hard to lose this last half pound before thursday! That part can be stressful, but i agree - the goals set in the challenges are not unrealistic nor unhealthy.
