I agree that it helps you keep a slow and steady weight loss goal. My issue was that i had a big weekend the week before the weigh in (2 birthdays and a wedding!!) and i am now having to work very hard to lose this last half pound before thursday! That part can be stressful, but i agree - the goals set in the challenges are not unrealistic nor unhealthy.
The average amount won was US $58.79 (SD US $34.90) (net earnings–US $29.00, SD US $16.43). Game winners lost an average of 4.9% (SD 1.0%) of initial body weight. A total of 30.68% of winners (n=5268) achieved a 5%, or clinically meaningful, weight loss.

Even if you don’t hit your 4% goal weight, chances are you still lost some weight, and while you might not get your money invested back you still are on your way to a healthier you, and that is worth any amount of money isn’t it?
